May 10th:
Late April and May were spent madly rehearsing for two, yes, two TYA shows as a part of Kaleidoscope Theatre's Family Theatre Festival. One was Mika Laulainen's play about overcoming grief and alien abduction, Runaway, directed by Graham MacDonald. I played Annie, the mysterious and angsty teen. The other was the delightful I Have Seen Beautiful Jim Key, written by Janet Munsil and directed by Kathleen Greenfield. I got to play Monk the dog (a puppet!)

Earlier this month, star star theatre and many other talented musical theatre artists participated in a completely insane 24-hour musical creation competition called SMACKDOWN. In just one day we wrote and performed a musical that took place solely within a gondola. Annndd... A-Grade opens on Friday! We are so so proud of this production. It is star star theatre's first independent production and my first official costume design, which makes me pretty happy. Wish us broken legs!

March 15th:
March has been wonderfully busy! We opened the dark and compelling Nordost on the 4th. Then I taught back-to-back spring break camps - one for Vancouver Performing Stars and one for Stage One Theatre School in Kamloops. The weekend between those camps was spent exploring puppets made of veggies and vegetation with some folks from the Banff puppet theatre intensive. In the meantime, we've been in rehearsals for star star theatre's upcoming production of A-Grade!

February 20th:
On Friday the 13th (oooh) I had an awesome time remounting the original Francine and Frankie B script for Eat My Puppet Shorts. The puppet slam featured some Vancouver puppeteers that I admire, including Mind of a Snail, Colour Sound Lab, and Lost & Found Puppet Co. In acting news, we're gearing up for the opening of Nordost, directed by Aliya Griffin and produced by The Troika Collective.

January 22nd:
Happy New Year! I'm currently in rehearsals for The Troika Collective's production of Nordost, a play about this shocking hostage-taking in Moscow. The show follows the stories of three women with drastically different experiences of the event. We've been learning some scary information about the Chechen wars in Russia while researching for this play. Throughout the next few months I'll also be shooting for the web series All's Fair Play with Kalama+tea Productions. Watch for it here.

December 15th:
The big December project was a fundraiser for star star theatre - the star star PARTY PARTY. The night included a cabaret hosted by the hilarious Mik Byskov and filled with the talents of star star alumni and pals. We also had some excellent music from Vancouver DJs - DJ rats rats, Volodicus, and Mike Tull from Splendub DJs. Earlier in December I helped out with mysterious soundscape for a reading of Dave Kenney's The Curse of Khaxit for Wolf Mountain Writing Collective.

Kamloops was amazing. Huge thanks to Western Canada Theatre (and all the fantastic people that shared their art at High Wire and/or helped make it happen), Chimera Theatre for inviting me to lead some puppetry workshops, and ArtStarts in Schools for the absolutely phenomenal workshop on arts integration. I cannot wait to put those skills to work in schools. Up next: Theatre Under the Gun with Impulse Theatre. Back to my lovely Victoria for a couple days!!

We're in the middle of fighting for the vote in 'Rebel Women' and I am about to head up to Kamloops to show off 'Francine and Frankie B Make Art!' to unsuspecting Kamloopsians. It's going to be fantastic. After that, I will be joining ArtStarts in Schools for a week at their Arts Integration Learning Lab. I am absolutely thrilled to have these wonderful opportunities to work and develop my craft at home in Kamloops.

'Francine and Frankie B Make Art!' was such a blast in Victoria. Keep your eyes peeled for it's arrival in Kamloops as part of Western Canada Theatre's High Wire Festival. Right now I'm transitioning to being a full time Vancouverite and working on 'Rebel Women' with Vital Spark Theatre. 'Rebel Women' follows the incredible journey of the Pankhursts and other militant suffragettes as they fought for the vote. Come check us out at Presentation House and the Metro!

It has been a wild summer. I spent June designing and building puppets for Impulse Theatre's stunning piece 'Wolf in the Mirror'. I spent the rest of June and most of July designing and building puppets for Project X Theatre's X Fest 2014 productions of 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'The Last of the Dragons'. Highlights included a pigeon puppet that pooped shaving cream and a eight foot tall, two person dragon puppet. I also had the immense pleasure of performing in these productions. I am so thankful for a truly fantastic summer!

May 27th:
Crazy life! At the beginning of May we had the short, sweet run of 'Runaway' at the Kaleidoscope Family Theatre Festival. In mid-May I joined Andrew Wade in performing his piece 'Grits (with Puppets and You!)' at the Firehall Arts Centre's BC Buds Spring Arts Festival. 'Paper Dreams' had a workshop presentation at Up in the Air Theatre's rEvolver Theatre Festival. On top of all that, the month saw me playing director, producer, designer, and assistant stage manager on a handful of other projects!

Rehearsals started today for Runaway, a play by Mika Laulainen. It's being produced by Theatre SKAM for the Kaleidoscope Family Theatre Festival. Earlier in the month I performed in the mixed ability dance piece 'Threads', choreographed by Tiffany Tjosvold of Embrace Performing Arts. Annnnddd we had our second public showing of star star theatre's work-in-development, 'Paper Dreams', as part of Intrepid Theatre's YOU Show series. Crazy!

This month has been jam-packed with puppet madness. I was back at the library, facilitating spring break puppetry camps. I've been madly building some extremely goofy puppets for Blair Moro's final directing project at UVic. I also had the chance to perform a short, chaotic puppet show called Francine and 'Frankie B's Frantastic Wonder Show' at the Belfry Theatre's Spark Festival Mid-way Party. #allpuppetsallthetime

February seems to be a month of creation, creation, creation! I'm working on some short pieces of puppet/spoken word theatre with dear friends Carol and Steph. Here's hoping we manage to show off in a few festivals! I'm also excited to be developing a piece of dance theatre with Embrace Performing Arts, exploring the concept of distance in relationship.

Mika Laulainen and I are getting ready to head to the Banff Center for a Puppet Theatre Intensive with Old Trout Puppet Workshop. SO EXCITING. I never knew that I would become a crazy puppet lady, but I am loving it. Check out a video we made about the intensive here.
